my approach to coaching

I provide individual and couples coaching to adults ages 18+ who are LGBTQIA+ and/or neurodivergent. I support self identification of neurodivergence and am familiar with issues relating to late identification. My experience spans across various neurotypes, including Autism, ADHD, High Sensitivity, Pathological Demand Avoidance, and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). I incorporate elements of several modalities in order to tailor your services specifically to you and your needs. My approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed and influenced by mindfulness, radical self compassion, polyvagal theory, intersectional feminism and internal family systems (IFS), among others.

My approach to coaching is different from therapy in the sense that the focus is not on past trauma and clinical treatment. My role is to support through providing education, helping you work toward goals, and fostering development of skills in various areas.

I work from a social justice centered, anti-oppressive and anti-racist lens. I am affirming of and allied with BIPOC, AAPI and LGBTQIA+ individuals. I also believe in weight inclusive, respectful care, working from a Health At Every Size perspective. In these areas, I’m continuing to educate myself about how to be an ally of marginalized communities as a cis-gender, thin privileged, white woman.

Specialties

  • Relationship Issues

In the context of romantic or platonic relationships, I provide practical strategies with individuals or couples struggling with communication barriers, difficulties in understanding social cues, managing sensory sensitivities within relationships, and navigating conflict resolution. Through individual sessions, we can explore personal challenges and goals related to relationships, while couples sessions offer a collaborative approach to addressing shared concerns and strengthening relationship dynamics. My approach in this area is rooted in fostering deeper connections, enhancing communication skills, setting boundaries, and promoting mutual understanding and respect.

  • Walk & Talk Nature-Based Services

Immersing ourselves in the natural environment can promote new discovery of perspective, mindful grounding and shift focus to the body and surroundings. The gentle rhythm of walking engages our senses and promotes nervous system regulation, while the non-confrontational nature of being side by side encourages a sense of safety, creating an ideal setting for open conversation. If you're drawn to the benefits of outdoor settings, this approach is a good fit for those who want to connect with nature while working toward goals.

  • executive function

Executive function is how our brains manage and regulate mental activities, including organization, time management, task initiation and prioritization. Neurodivergent folks experience differences in executive function compared to neurotypical folks. I will work with you to understand the unique executive function strengths and challenges associated with your neurotype, and offer tools that resonate with your individual needs and learning style. Whether its breaking tasks down into manageable steps, implementing visual aids and reminders, or creating routines, we can work on ways to navigate daily tasks.

  • adverse religious experiences & faith deconstruction

Maybe you’re an ex-evangelical like me, have left another religious community, or are just wanting more support in an area related to spirituality or deconstruction. We may explore beliefs, identity shifts, or reclaim and rebuild aspects of your life that have been impacted by harmful religion. I approach these issues with a trauma-informed perspective and provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to land.

  • self esteem

The way we feel about ourselves has a huge impact on multiple aspects of our lives. If you are struggling in this area, I would love to help empower you to celebrate and embrace your neurodivergent traits and strengths, and identify barriers to that in a world that is often not designed to support neurodiversity. Maybe this looks like working toward unmasking with safe people, or getting in touch with what is most important to you. Together, we can explore your values, help you grow supportive relationships, and develop a deeper sense of self compassion.

  • Stress Management

Chronic tension, overstimulation, and stress can impact day-to-day functioning, possibly leading to meltdowns, shutdowns, and burnout. Work, school, relationships, masking, executive dysfunction, the pandemic- all of these things can heighten our body’s stress response. In our work together, learning to manage stress may look like identifying your sensory needs, increasing sources of support, and developing skills to regulate your nervous system.

Please note: while coaching support can be highly beneficial for many, it may not be suitable for individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges, including but not limited to, those experiencing suicidality, severe depression, or severe anxiety. In such cases, individuals may require immediate and intensive support in a controlled and safe environment. It's crucial for individuals with acute mental health concerns to prioritize their safety and seek appropriate professional help before considering coaching.

Additionally, those who are physically unable to engage in outdoor activities or have mobility limitations may find walk-and-talk services more challenging, though I will do my best to make accommodations or modifications for accessibility.
